What is the NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is an Australian Government program that funds supports and services for people with disability, including young children with developmental delays or disabilities.

For children aged 0–9, the NDIS has a specific Early Childhood Intervention pathway that includes key worker support — a dedicated coordinator who works across all of your child's services. For all other allied health supports including speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, and support workers, United EIS works with children aged 0–18.

Is my child eligible?

Your child may be eligible for NDIS early intervention funding if they have a disability or developmental delay that is likely to be permanent, or if early support would reduce their future needs.

How NDIS funding works

Once your child has an NDIS plan, funding is allocated across different support categories. Early intervention therapy is typically funded under Capacity Building — Supports for Early Childhood.

1

Apply for the NDIS

Contact the NDIS on 1800 800 110 or visit ndis.gov.au to submit an access request. You'll need supporting evidence from a GP, paediatrician, or specialist.

2

Attend a planning meeting

An NDIS planner or Local Area Coordinator (LAC) will meet with you to discuss your child's needs and goals. This is where your funding is determined.

3

Receive your NDIS plan

Your plan will outline the funding available for different support categories. Therapy services like speech, OT, and psychology are typically funded under Capacity Building.

4

Choose your providers

You choose which registered providers deliver your child's supports. You can self-manage, use a plan manager, or have the NDIA manage your funds.

5

Start therapy with United EIS

Once your plan is in place, contact us to get started. We'll work with you to build a therapy schedule that fits your child's goals and your family's life.

Types of NDIS funding management

1

Plan managed

A plan manager handles payments on your behalf. You have more flexibility in choosing providers and the plan manager takes care of the admin.

2

Self managed

You manage your own funding and pay providers directly. This gives you the most flexibility and choice, but requires more administration from you.
